Closer to You
Thanks to all of you, Kamoi Kakoshi will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2023.
Looking ahead to the next 100 years, Kamoi Kakoshi is developing new methods to upcycle scrap materials into craft supplies. To spread the enjoyment of crafting to all present customers, and to circulate happiness to future generations, is at the heart of this special “mt next 100 project”.

Masking tape rolls are made by slicing a long roll of paper, a “log roll", into individual rolls. The scraps on either end of the log roll are called “Heta”. These irregularly shaped “Heta” have been discarded in the manufacturing process up until now. However, as these “Heta” are still functional as tape rolls, we have begun to offer them as part of unique assorted sets in Japan.
-
In addition to “Heta”, some washi paper is also left over during the manufacturing process. We now put these colorful washi papers through a shredder to create cushioned washi packing material for online orders and shipments to retailers.
-
There is also a washi “base paper” layer at the end of the log roll that cannot be processed into masking tape. This is now cut into a size that is easy to use as wrapping paper. The deep and vivid color comes from the core, not from printing, so the same beautiful color can be enjoyed on both sides.

Mr. Nishimura (Atelier Perpendiculaire) proposed using mt masking tape as a tool to help elderly persons and people with disabilities feel connections with society through “handicrafts with art”. We agreed with this approach and the project “Feathers of Happiness” began.
